The Pest Exterminators Association of the Philippines is a non-profit organization seeking to further standardize the pest control industry in the Philippines thru its regular general members' meeting and hosting quarterly technician's training, giving lectures about the latest trends and techniques in pest management.

PEAP is giving its members access to seminars, international activities, and events.

In a nutshell, the Pest Exterminators Association of the Philippines assists the individual Pest Control Operator in the country in many technical aspects of the industry, and keeps the Operators informed about the latest business matters.

Termaxpro, as a PEAP member; upholds the aspirations of the organization.  We pledge to provide  honest and best service we can.  Our mission is to be a reliable pest control company that every Filipino homes can depend on. These standards have been upheld through the years of our operations, with advancements in training, chemicals, equipment, and safety.

PEAP HISTORY

It was a warm and beautiful summer day in March of 1979, the FPA sponsored pre-licensing Seminar had been very well attended. There had been no less than 50 independent pest controllers who came and were eager to listen and comply with the new regulations, among these participants was a struggling young pest control operator the late Julio Salazar, owner and operator of J.A. Salazar.

Dependable Pest control (now Multipest Services) and a retired colonel who was at that time the already successful owner and operator of Emar Merchandising and Pest Control Services whose name was well-known in the industry circles, the late col. Marcelo “Roy”Roa-Yu.

The seminar had already been on its third day. During the noonday break, these two gentlemen had decided to disengage themselves from the main body of participants. They picked a nice and cozy spot in the AIT grounds and then proceeded to indulge in small talk which eventually drifted to a subject of mutual interest.

Roy was then an active member in good standing of the lone pest control association in the country. However, he had by this time grown disenchanted and disillusioned with it for strictly private reasons, no wonder the man had started toying with the idea of resigning from that association and joining another one, but there simply had been no such recourse available then. So, when July Salazar broached the idea of organizing and establishing a new association to be run precisely along with the same conceptual lines such as Roy’s, Roy became deeply interested and upon further cajolery from July, he finally agreed to organize such an organization. July became self appointed legman and they began their campaign in earnest.

The initial meeting of the organization was held at the Capitol Hills Golf Club house. Because July had done such a good job of it, nearly a hundred people came to listen to what the good ex-colonel had to say. At the appointed time, Roy delivered his message. This had been well received by the PCO’s in general. When the meeting came to an end, some of the audience had chosen to stay behind to make further inquiries into the proposed new association. As it turned out later, this group became the hard-core element of the new association.

Several more meetings followed wherein the nitty gritty of organization matters were tackled and ironed out. In one such meeting which was held at the Philippine Columbian, the name of the organization was unanimously adapted. It was to be and still is the Pest Exterminator’s Association of The Philippines, Inc. This culminated in the landslide election of the association’s first president, Marcelo “Roy” Roa-Yu.

Pest Control Philippines- Why we are afraid of insects.

Sometimes, reality is stranger than fiction. Insects have been portrayed in horror movies and sci-fi as menace that can wreak havoc. And it is strange, as we all know that most of these tiny insects can’t hurt us, yet when they touch or land on our skin, we scream to death.

Pest Control Industry has been in the service for decades, with a continuous growing demand from clients willing to spend time and money just to get rid of them.  Many people admitted to be afraid of insects particularly spiders, more than who feared dying because of a violent crime or sickness.

Some logical explanations why these generally small and harmless creatures are considered to be so frightening.

1.     1. Because some of them are actually may pose harm or danger.
Yes, they are scary because some of them either bite or sting such as scorpions, bees, bedbugs etc.  The most notable reason is that they can cause harmful or deadly disease such as Zika virus and Malaria brought by mosquitoes.  Researchers believes that we have evolved to be aware of the presence of animals that may pose danger, however how small they seem to be.

2.    2. Because we find them horrible.
Even though we are not afraid of insects the way we fear sharks, snakes or a crocodile.  We may go into panic if we see these deadly animals in the wilderness, but at the same time we can find these animals as popular mascots, animated characters and find them cute and lovely, but we don’t have any bugs/insects gracing the covers of our food labels and boxes or appearing as beautiful in children’s cartoons or fairy tale books.  Some expert suggest that it is the feeling of disgust- (the “rejection response” — the overwhelming feeling that you need to get this thing away from you, like, right now) that causes the real fear from these little critters.

3. They look obnoxious and invasive.

Yes, given their weird physical attributes like many legs and many eyes, and unique locomotion compared to other animals of mammalian order or other stranger animals; it is not surprising that they can evoke fear to us.  Most of the time, we find them as invaders of our homes, and it may be a coincidence or plain reason that we have pictured the green Extra Terrestrials from other planets into their likeness. Most of the time, our encounter with insects feel like an invasion — like an encroachment on our home territory, a place where we’re supposed to feel safe and clean and in control.

Termites and wood boring beetle, etc.- How to exterminate using different treatment techniques.

The name wood-boring beetle covers the kind of wood destroying beetles on its larval or adults stage. It is commonly referred in the Philippines as "bukbok" in the woodworking business. Longhorn beetles, weevils, bark beetles and metallic flat-headed borers are the most common.

These beetles are regarded as primary decomposers in nature; they are significant in the ecosystem, as they let new growth of trees by get ridding of dead trees in the forest. They give back nutrients to the soil in the process. Imagine a dead tree with all its nutrients locked in, this is where wood borers are important in nature’s way of recovery cycle.                                                                                                                                                                                                      Powder post beetle in focus.

Some beetles such as Asian longhorn and emerald ash borer may attack healthy living tress that can be considered as economic pests in agricultural sense, many of these organisms will only eat dead trees, and this is where domestic problem particularly in building construction arises.

It is not common for furniture or other wood products to be infested by woodborers (as they are basically a dead tree).  The wood supplies that have been used may have a presence of beetle eggs or larvae, with its long life cycle; it may take years before their presence becomes obvious.  These are some concerns to be focused with by homeowners and builders from planning to construction.  The infestation may occur ideally in humid areas of the house.

Infested wooden furniture must be removed or thrown away before the infestation becomes serious. In reality, distinguishing the pest by researching further before calling an exterminator is a tiresome task and may prove impractical or waste of time, leave the job to an entomologist or seek immediate help from a reliable local pest control provider is the best option. Some beetles attack timber used in construction and furniture making; others limit their infestation to forests or roots of living trees.

Most of the method treatment includes:

1.       Spot application of pesticides by spraying or brushing; do not do it by yourself, most effective insecticides are only obtainable by certified pest control professionals.

2.       Cold treatment by Freezing. For valuable or expensive infested furniture, this may be an option.   Wrapping it in a protective cover such as plastic and placed big in freezers for several weeks.

3.       Heat treatment procedure, where wood is heated at high temperature for a few hours.

4.       Fumigation, treatment usually employing gaseous pesticide to suffocate pests.
